Writings of CatholicismThe religious writings of Catholics are found in the Bible or Gospel.
The bible contains 46 books from the Old testament and 27 books in the New Testament. The bible recites the happenings before Christ was born in the Old Testament and the teachings, life and mission of Jesus in the New Testament. It re-tells stories such as Noah's Arch, the Exodus, the birth of Christ, parables and others. The gospel, meaning 'good news', has four writers known as Luke, Mark, Matthew and John that wrote about the life of Jesus and portrayed him as a person that is suited for the different Catholic community they are writing to such as the Christians with Jewish background being persecuted by other Jews who opposed Christianity. Writing for IslamThe religious writings of Muslims are found in Quran and Sunnah.
The Quran recites the message of Allah (God in Arabic) to humans. The prophet Mohammed saw the message in a dream with the angel Gabriel giving it to him. Mohammed saw the Quran at 40 years old in 610 CE and completed writing it when he was 63 years old in 633 CE. The Quran recites the beliefs of Muslims, the origins of their history and the word of Allah. The Sunnah is different from Quran by its form. It was inspired and encouraged to be written by Allah, or God. The Sunnah recites the wording and actions of Mohammed, and unlike Quran, was expressed using any human's words. |
LawsAll religions in the wall have laws that exist to help its members avoid doing evil and sinning. This stops people from damaging relationships with people around them, their community and God.
Laws of CatholicismThe religious laws for Catholics are created by the Church that are made to ensure peace and safety. These laws are develop people religiously and spiritually, allowing them to grow in love with God and their neighbour.
The Catholics laws revolve around the 10 commandments given to Moses after escaping from Egypt with the Israelis (known as the Exodus story). The 10 commandments state that: 1. You must not have any other god but me. 2. You must not make for yourself an idol 3. You must not use the name of the Lord your God in vain 4. Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 5. Honour your father and mother. 6. You must not murder. 7. You must not commit adultery. 8. You must not steal. 9. You must not testify falsely against your neighbour. 10. You must not covet your neighbour’s house wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbour. Jesus placed in two more commandments that are known as the two greatest commandments: 1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and mind. 2. Love your neighbour as yourself. Laws of IslamThe religious laws for Muslims are known as the Sharia laws. Sharia means 'sacred law of Islam'.
The Sharia law is the Muslim's religious code of life and is used for both Islamic system of Law and code of behaviour. Sharia show the aspects of a Muslim's lifestyle that include politics, foods, clothing, familial and religious obligations, and economics. The laws of Sharia have 4 main schools that are: - Hanbali: This is used in Arabia and some other states such as states within Nothern Nigeria. - Maliki: This is based on rituals and practices that occurred during the Mohammed's life from the people of Medina. - Shafi'i: This recites and concentrates on the allies and companions of Mohammed and their opinions. - Hanifi: This is relates to the modern era and it's ideas. |
