Catholics and Christians have many symbols and signs that represent their belief and faith.
In every Catholic Church or when you go to mass, you'll see a cross or crucifix. To Catholics and Christians, the crucifix and cross are important symbols that reveal their religion and belief. The crucifix reminds and marks the death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday where he sacrificed himself for the salvation of humanity.
Each Sacrament in the Church has a symbol or sign: In Baptism, the holy water is a symbol - representing the cleansing of Original sin that everyone is born with. The sacrament Confirmation has the dove and fire as symbols. The dove represents the Holy Spirit and the fire represents the Pentecost. In the sacrament of Communion, Catholics receive the wine and bread. The two are signs of Jesus giving himself up for humanity. The wine represents the blood of Jesus that is within us and the bread represents the body of Jesus given up for us.
Statues of saints, Jesus or Mary may draw Catholics into a deeper understanding and experience with God. These statues and images remind and encourage Christians and Catholics they can live like Jesus in in the same way Mary and saints, the servants of God, did.
The Statue of Mary reminds Catholics that God is always there to conquer temptations of sin. Mary is a spiritual mother that any Catholic can pray to and this is reminded through her statue. Like Jesus, Mary is a spiritual member and mother of the Church, caring for Catholics and Christians.
