The Sacred Places of Catholicism and Islam
|
Catholics: The Sacred PlacesMost of the sacred places, for Catholics, are places where communication with God and Jesus is best. These places may include their local church, temples, sacred sites and other specific places. Catholics go to these places to remind themselves of God and his presence found within the sacred places shown through symbols and signs.
When Catholics go to Church, they gather and participate in communal worship or may worship by themselves where they may ask God for help, praise God or just pray. Throughout the world, there are churches and parishes that are run by local priests. An example of a parish located in Tuart Hill, Perth, is the St. Kieran Parish. Another example is the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine located in Florida, United States of America. A very important sacred place for Catholics where the Pope and bishops may live is known St. Peter's Basilica located in the Vatican City. The Sacred Places of MuslimsMuslims have many sacred places such as their shrines and mosques. Their sacred places reveal their faith and beliefs about God and the virtues they must learn. To Muslims, the holiest place reveals their faith and teaches them about love and goodness that everyone has and that Allah, or God, has given to them.
Also places such as "The Dome of the Rock" teach them about Mohammed, their role model, leader and founder, and his teachings based on God. These sacred shrines and mosques are visited on monthly pilgrimages Muslims take. The most holiest place Muslims believe is Ka'bah which holds the Black Stone of Mecca and is believed to wash away sins if you kiss or touch it. |
Jerusalem
Jerusalem is a very sacred place to both Catholics and Muslims. It is the place where the prophet Mohammed ascended into heaven and was given the 5 pillars of Islam faith and where Jesus Christ had died and resurrected.
